Visiting the Lue Pottery just outside of Mudgee NSW

About 30 minutes out of Mudgee we visited the Lue Pottery. After turning off the road you drive down a long dirt road to reach Des & Jan Howard’s Lue Pottery.  What a treat!!! Des showed me around his amazing studio buildings (which he built himself using recycled materials). I was in heaven. He uses locally sourced materials and makes his own clays (porcelaneous stoneware) and glazes. His pots were so strong…he bashed two of his bowls together and there was no scratch, chip or crack.

Des specialises in making domestic and decorative items. They were so beautiful.  He also showed me a range of coil and slab pots that he made. I was in the presence of a true master!

While moving through his 300 square metre workshop he explained a number of techniques that he uses and showed me some great tools that he made.

Thanks Des for a wonderful time. I hope to come and visit again.

  1. marvellous work. The glaze on the 1st pot is quite amazing. And I love coiled work, so these are very inspirational…
